Important Deadlines for existing enrollent SFIA & 2c Managed Forestland Tax Class

Sustainable Forest Incentive Act (SFIA)

JULY 1: YEARLY CERTIFICATION
Within the first two weeks of May during each year you are enrolled in the SFIA, you will receive a letter from the MN Department of Revenue that asks you to fill out a form and return it by July 1st to certify that your land meets SFIA requirements. This form is important - it will allow you to receive your SFIA payment for that calendar year. For example: you receive a certification letter in May 2021 — you must fill this out and return it to the MN Department of Revenue by July 1st, 2021 to receive the 2021 SFIA payment.

JULY 1: PLAN REGISTRATION
This is also the date your updated Stewardship Plan must be submitted to the DNR for registration when you intend to maintain eligibility in the SFIA program. Please notify the staff at Itasca Woodland Services of your intent to remain in the SFIA program so we can finish your plan in time for the DNR to review, approve, and register your plan by July 1.

2c Managed Forestland Tax Class

DECEMBER 15: PLAN REGISTRATION
To maintain the Managed Forestland tax classification on your property, your updated Stewardship Plan must be submitted to the DNR for registration by December 15. This will allow assessors to maintain your property’s Managed Forestland status when calculating new valuations.

If you miss the December 15 deadline, you will need to re-apply to the program by submitting a new enrollment application and obtaining a registered Stewardship Plan by May 1 in order to maintain your eligibility in the 2c Tax Program without risk of losing a benefit.

If your Stewardship Plan is set to expire between December 15 and May 1, we strongly recommend letting us know prior to December so we can get your plan updated promptly with no risk to your 2c Tax Class eligibility.
